For the past 42 years, the La Prada Church of Christ congregation has hosted a singing school week to teach young people to sing a capella through the reading of shape notes. During this week that we refer to as our Summer Work, children and teens come from congregations and neighborhoods throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and beyond to fellowship, study scripture, learn congregational singing, and grow friendships that can last a lifetime. The week holds many opportunities for both growth and fun. Below is a photo of just a few of the younger boys on the one day during the Summer Work when everyone takes a rest from Singing School and Bible Studies and goes, as a large group, to Six Flags. The Most Important Week of Your Life
When you look back on your life, what do you consider to be the most important week of your life?
Was it the week that you graduated from high school?
Was it the week you married your spouse?
Or was it the week that your child was born?
While all of those things are wonderful and life changing events, they are not the most important thing that has ever happened for you.
Did you know that the most important week of your life occurred 2000 years ago?
That is when Jesus entered into the city of Jerusalem for the last time.
And as that week transpired, many of the events that would ultimately give you the opportunity for salvation occurred.
Hebrews 12:2 says, “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame,
and is set down at the right hand of God.”
The last week in Jerusalem was the setting where Jesus authored many of the events of the Gospel and finished his Father’s will for Him on earth.
Luke 9:51 says, "And it came to pass, when the time was come that he (Jesus) should be received up, he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem...
". Jesus knew exactly what awaited him in Jerusalem. He knew it from the foundation of the world. And as he begins to head toward Jerusalem
for the last time, he looks upon the city and sees what is awaiting him there.
You are invited to join us as we steadfastly set our faces on Jesus and what happened that week in Jerusalem.
Come and hear the praises as He enters into the city.
Come and see Him anointed with oil from an alabaster box.
Come and learn what was done for you on an old, rugged cross.
And come and look into the empty tomb.....
